River swimming in the Reuss

True Holidays Beau Sejour Lucerne

There are shorter or longer routes to choose from when swimming in the Reuss River. On hot summer days, the longest stretch from Kasernenplatz to Reusszopf is wonderful. For a short stretch, you can also get in or out at Säntimatt or St. Karli. However, one must not forget that the Reuss is also challenging for experienced swimmers. Swimming in the original sense is not really done by anyone, but everyone enjoys drifting downstream with the current. The current, however, is very strong and you will need some strong arm or leg movements if you want to influence the direction. It is helpful to have a buoyancy aid that provides a little buoyancy. For example, swimming bags in which you can store valuables and dry clothes. In addition, there is a "Reuss app" which shows you what the current weather conditions are and how strongly the Reuss is flowing at the moment. So you are ideally prepared and recognize early enough when it is too dangerous.
